Making Universal Wellness a Community Priority
As shown by the success of the Universal Playground Project and similar endeavors, the Fox Cities is a very generous community with a great track record in supporting the need for more resources and services for people with disabilities.

To take these efforts even further, the Universal Wellness Project Steering Committee has developed a two-step plan to address overall accessibility and wellness issues and improve everybody’s health and life.

Step One: Upgrading Local YMCA Facilities
Step Two: Developing a New Wellness Center

The reason these steps are so critically important? Without the necessary focus on fitness and wellness or availability of accessible facilities, people with disabilities are at risk for developing even more chronic conditions - heart problems and weight gain as well as high blood sugars, cholesterol and blood pressure.

A Closer Look at the Need

• Upwards of 53,000 people - or nearly 14 percent of area Appleton/ Oshkosh/ Neenah residents - suffer from some sort of disability

• Over 700,000 people in Wisconsin live with disabilities

29 percent of adults age 45 and over in Northeast Wisconsin have limited physical activity because of a disability
